Google Meet vs Zoom vs Skype vs others: What is the best video conferencing app?.

Both platforms offer high quality HD video with scheduling capabilities, screen sharing, gallery layouts, background filters, and chat functions. Google Meet and Zoom offer tiered paid plans for businesses, which allow for longer video calls, a greater number of participants, and more. Both companies also offer custom enterprise plans.
Standard plans and above offer features such as call recording, breakout rooms, hand raising, and polls as well as additional support options. With Google Workspace, your Google Meet will automatically integrate into your entire work system, which means your plan will include a custom business Gmail account, additional storage in Drive, team messaging with Chat, and a cohesive Calendar system.
Paid plans with Zoom also come with live support options as well as polling, streaming, and closed-captioning features. Zoom, on the other hand, does require an app download in order to schedule or begin a call, but it allows you to join a call directly from your browser. The only time this might cause an issue is if your employees need admin access to download and update apps on their work computers. Whenever we conduct business over the internet, security is a top concern.
Luckily, Google and Zoom understand that. Both Google Meet and Zoom calls are encrypted, meaning all data transmitted over your video calls on either platform will be inaccessible to outsiders.
To protect your individual calls, Google Meet and Zoom both offer two-factor authentication, unique meeting access codes, and the ability to mute or remove disruptive or unwelcome participants. Once the chat is over, all messages are wiped. You can only save chat messages when you record your video calls. The chat icon is featured at the top-right corner. Simply tap it to begin chatting. As a host, you can prevent participants from sending messages if you use G Suite for Education.
Both platforms support instant messaging; however, Zoom features an exclusive chat medium, while Google Meet features in-video live chat. Hence, Google Meet wins. While signing up on Zoom, only your basic profile information is stored. Your video meetings, chat, and other activities with Zoom are secured with bit TLS encryption. You can further encrypt your communications using AES encryption or end-to-end encryption. For privacy, you can utilize audio signatures, passcodes, etc.
As a host, you can also lock a meeting to prevent others who are yet to join from joining. This eliminates the possibility of anonymous participants. By default, all data transmitted on the Google Meet platform is encrypted.
Recordings are also encrypted and stored on Google Cloud. The platform works under IETF security standards. From your Zoom dashboard, you get a quick rundown of your meeting statistics. This includes statistics of users and meetings. These statistics are displayed in graphs, while you can get detailed values by moving your mouse over the graphs or tapping on your mobile device. In detail, you get statistics of your top 10 meeting participants, overall usage, top 10 locations, top devices, participant satisfaction trend, participant feedback, and more.
You can sort these statistics for the last 7 days, last 30 days, last days, last year, or any custom timeframe. Furthermore, the data can be downloaded as a CSV file. You can get tracked data and statistics of your Google Meet meetings via the Meet Quality tool. This tool saves data for 30 days, and you can monitor meeting information, participants, timeline view, etc.
However, not all Google Meet users can access this feature. Nevertheless, as a host, you can access your meeting log from the admin settings. Zoom provides more in-depth analytics and retains them for a longer period than Google Meet.
There are so many third-party integrations featured on Zoom. Marketing integrations featured include Marketo, Zapier, Pardot, and Eloqua.
You can access even more Zoom integrations from the Zoom App Marketplace. In total, there are more than 1, apps in the Zoom app marketplace. Google Meet integrates with third-party video conferencing platforms, including Sony, Skype, Cisco, Polycom, and Lifesize. You can use these platforms to deploy, schedule, and join meetings on Google Meet.
Natively, these are the platforms that integrate the Google Meet feature. However, as a platform from Google, many third-party platforms are optimized to work with Google Meet, just like other Google products and services. You can get support as a Zoom customer from their Help Center. You can also use LiveChat or via the contact form. Available resources include live training, blog, and how-to videos. You can request a demo before paying to use Zoom.
Nowadays, I’ve used more Webex with my undergraduate students, I’m using the free account. Cloud recording is a features very useful, especially while using the free account thanks Cisco!
Webex has control features very useful e. From my experiences I feel like Zoom is a pretty intuitive program to teach kids, however Skype might be more common amongst them already. They all do the same pretty much but Teams I find the bells and whistles are easier to find, like custom backgrounds Easy to share files. I own an Escape Room. Since right now everyone is practicing social distancing, I would like to run my Escape Room games virtually.
I would like to allow approx 4 users to log in to play. They can chitchat a few minutes before their game to get to know each other. Then once the game begins, I will introduce myself and give them the plot to their escape game.
I will have a wide-angle camera mounted to the wall to show the room, and as the game master, carry a tablet or webcam around as players talk to me and direct me to show them certain items in the room, move in for closeups in certain areas, try lock combinations, etc. I will be their hands while they solve the puzzles.
I did try it yesterday using google hangout meet and it was good, but I think there may have been a wifi issue where it was choppy.
Just trying to figure out the best option. Thank you! Google meet, as well as zoom are amazing platforms for online meetings. But I will try to explain the pros and cons of both according to your needs. Network requirements: Google meet requires considerably more bandwidth than zoom, and it isn’t a great choice if you have poor internet, or if there are more than 25 or 30 participants. While zoom is pretty lightweight and can support large groups say about 80 with little to no internet instability.
UI: Zoom and google meet have decent UI, but assuming that participants will be using mobiles, they might have a hard time with chatting in zoom as it takes up a lot of space to view all contents. Battery consumption: Google meet hogs up your battery when uploading your video and also your video quality, unlike zoom will not be adjusted based on your network, meaning, even if you have poor internet, google meet will upload your video in high quality, sometimes leading to lag and hangs.
NOTE: If you are using the free version of zoom, your meeting will automatically end after 40 minutes. So either keep your games small, or buy the premium version. In the end I think zoom will be a better choice according to your needs, but if you plan on buying zoom, I recommend you read other reviews about zoom. Enjoy and stay safe! Another on is the enable waiting room, where participants can ‘wait’ before you allow them in the meeting.
Zoom has lot more features and higher quality. Agree with the other people’s advice. Make sure to realize it is 40 min limit for free account – but you can do monthly Zoom subscription and try it out or only use during pandemic and cancel subscription once this is over if you need to. One of the better parts is that you don’t necessarily have to download it you can search it up on google and make an account it’s as easy as that.
One last thing I will say is that you can have customizable ranks and so on so if you desire to split people into teams you can do so and with that, you can customize what they can do like give people ranks or de-rank them. Like I mentioned earlier about VC’s you can also screen share and do videos so you can see their screen or their face. Our team is made up of both remote and local employees. After doing daily standups over Zoom for a while, we started looking for a better solution.
If you want a simple, private, straightforward way to quickly jump on a meeting with 10 colleagues or 6 friends, use Google Meet. You know something is popular when it becomes a verb, and Zoom has already passed that milestone. In a nutshell, Zoom is an enterprise-grade, large-scale video-calling service with tons of features not an exaggeration , and it has a free plan. The free plan allows you to call up to participants and use many of the features, but the meeting time is limited to 40 minutes.
Even with the free plan, you can record a call , mute participants , chat, share documents or your screen, make HD video calls, use a whiteboard or virtual backgrounds, send emojis, and a lot more. Both Google Meet and Zoom work on the web. Anyone with a link can join via a web browser, whether or not they install the app. It can handle participants on an HD call for multiple hours just fine. When you look at this list, you can clearly see why Zoom is so popular.
It was clearly designed for enterprise-level use and works really well for professional purposes, as well.
This is why you should consider which features are really important to you to choose the right video-calling software. If you need even one of the Zoom-exclusive features, well, your choice has been made.

Additionally, Microsoft Advanced Threat Protection ATP is available on its Business Premium and E5 plans, blocking potentially malicious content from being accessed by those in your company.
Microsoft also uses Data Loss Protection DLP to catch sensitive data being shared like social security numbers , and automatically block it from being sent. Along with eDiscovery and legal holds within channels, chats, and files, Teams ensures you stay compliant with all data storage regulations.
From what we can see Meet has no specifically listed DLP capabilities. Zoom does not offer any of these features on its primary platform. Overall, Zoom has responded well to its privacy challenges, but the changes are largely cosmetic. End-to-end encryption E2EE is great to have, but its addition was more of a response to a problem than a complete solution. It is unlikely that E2EE protects most users from more than encryption in transit and at rest, like with Teams and Meet.
E2EE is most useful in 1-on-1 conversations where sensitive information may be shared, and it will be available on Teams soon according to Microsoft. The videoconferencing company has less to worry about because they are a single-purpose app, dealing solely with videoconferencing, and not the storage of files, chats, and other information like Microsoft or Google. Based on reputation alone, Microsoft stands well above the others in terms of security. This second level of protection and privacy makes it the safest, in our experience.
For base-level features at an affordable price, it is hard to beat Zoom, who is focused solely on videoconferencing. For the most bang for your buck, Teams ties your whole company together in one space, with the best possible features and security available. If you are looking for an all-in-one collaboration hub that keeps all your communication in one space, we highly recommend Microsoft Teams.

How Much Data Does a Zoom Meeting Use | – Network requirements
Developers describe Google Meet as ” A video conferencing app “. It is the business-oriented version of Google’s Hangouts platform and is suitable for businesses of all sizes. It allows users to dial in phone numbers to access meetings, thus enabling users with slow internet connection to call in.
Zoom unifies cloud video conferencing, simple online meetings, and cross platform group chat into one easy-to-use platform. I want to host an online Jeopardy game with less than 30 participants. During each round of the game, I’ll stream some videos. The point is to gather friends together to play the Jeopardy game and watch random stuff.
Please let me know if there’s a more suitable platform other than Discord and Zoom. Thanks, everyone! Personally, I think that Discord works much better than anything else, even if you don’t have Nitro which is what they call their premium plan. You could seriously do this Jeopardy thing with just Discord and maybe a bot to make it easier. Zoom would only let you have a crappy meeting that hackers could easily join. Discord actually has DDoS protection, Zoom just has things that can easily be bypassed.
I am in the midst of planning an online webinar for middle school boys. I’ve used Zoom for something similar, and it should work for you. Zoom is widely accessible, including via phone calls. One challenge with middle school boys might be managing participant behavior. Zoom’s webinar mode might be more appropriate for this use case. Zoom is more popular and have more control over participants, but Crowdcast is more flexible, because of the HTML5 support and can apply widgets on webpages.
Both can be used on any platform, but zoom needs to be installed first. I have a google account and use google classroom. I want to give classes online, including screen-sharing, and going in and out of multiple documents on screen. Even though I am paying for my google account, I still want to explore which of these two tools is best for what I want to do. My classes vary from 5 to 20 persons per class, three times per week, and have a duration of 2 times 45 min.
I researched both, used both, I like Zoom much better. I like to compare it to Google having the lite version of an app while Zoom is the paid version. I know Zoom is normally paid but has a limited free version. Hope this helps but Zoom seems much further ahead. Hi, I am helping teachers in my kid’s schools to set up distance learning and wanted to see what is better between Webex, Zoom, and Skype although only putting this one in as most parents probably have it.
The children are , so they won’t be using it on their own and the parents have no experience using Webex or Zoom. The main use will be for the teacher to explain what they will be covering in the week and enable some social interaction between the kids.
We’ve been using Zoom for about a half a year and it’s stability is unbeatable. The free tier can easily handle the requirements, the only limitation is that max meeting length is 40 minutes. After that you can immediately restart the meeting, but the pro option is also very affordable. It also features screen sharing and whiteboard sharing out of the box.
I also appreciate that it’s not mandatory to register an account to attend a meeting. I haven’t used Skype in a long time.
I have I lot of experience with Zoom and Webex. Both for me are very good tools, especially if you have money to pay for to unlock more features, like more people in a video conference – Zoom.

Like I mentioned earlier about VC’s you can also screen share and do videos so you can see their screen or their face. Our team is made up of both remote and local employees. After doing daily standups over Zoom for a while, we started looking for a better solution.
Having a fixed time for video meetings was problematic due to time zone differences. And the information that was exchanged was lost to whoever missed the meeting, and not super accessible even if the video was recorded. We also had a goal of minimizing the number of video meetings in our workflow since they’re a bit disruptive.
After some discussion, we landed on Jell. It integrates with Slack , so all posts are collected in one channel. This allows you to browse posts and access information much more easily than you would in video form. It also makes it easy to keep track of daily tasks via a todo-style checklist. We’ve been using Jell for several months now and it’s worked out great for our team. Standups MeetingTools RemoteTeam. Using Screenhero via Slack was getting to be pretty horrible.
Video and sound quality was often times pretty bad and worst of all the service just wasn’t reliable. We all had high hopes when the acquisition went through but ultimately, the product just didn’t live up to expectations. We ended up trying Zoom after I had heard about it from some friends at other companies. You can schedule recurring calls which is helpful. Meeting recordings video and audio are really nice, you get recordings stored in the cloud on the higher tier plans.
One of our engineers, Jerome, actually built a cool little Slack integration using the Slack API and Zoom API so that every time a recording is processed, a link gets posted to the “event-recordings” channel.
The iOS app is great too! Get Advice. Follow I use this. Google Meet vs Zoom: What are the differences? Advice on Google Meet and Zoom. Needs advice. You could seriously do this Jeopardy thing with just Discord and maybe a bot to make it easier Zoom would only let you have a crappy meeting that hackers could easily join.
