I experience a more productive, and there for pleasant workflow. I am working with lots of data and apps open. After that, you can make an informed decision of what to make of it. The only thing missing is a christmas-tree with lights and a carol going off. Despite having all these features, it lacks the simple need for app-specific favorites.

Now I have to dig into a mess of favorite folders that I cannot even organize. The app feels slow and bogs down slower macs. Do this instead: create a folder called App Favorites in your home folder, drag this to the favorites bar, preferably high up in the list. Then add aliases into this folder for every folder you need to quickly get to. You can either have a long list of unorganized folders, or you can create subfolders for specific apps, or make a sorted list with a prefix in every name connected to the intended app.

Apps nowadays do an adequate job to remember the previous folders I opened and saved files, but long-time DFX users will not know it since they most likely haven’t given the stock environment a fair chance. Granted, it’s not perfect, but I usually add folders to the Sidebar on the fly if it bothers me. I often use the built-in search to jump to a particular folder, so I don’t usually bother navigating through file hierarchy if something is not in the Sidebar.

I use tags in file names, so it’s relatively quick to narrow down my choices with a few keywords. I also use Spotlight search to instantly locate a folder while I’m in Open and Save sheet.

I drag and drop a folder icon from Spotlight popup to Open and Save sheet, and it will jump straight to that folder. To me, effective usage of the stock OS functionalities and proper naming of folders render this utility unnecessary. I used it for several years in the past, but I haven’t missed it since I learned to take more advantage of built-in features.

Default Folder is as much a time saver as Alfred and Typinator. You can save favorite folders that you use frequently, sets for favorite folders for different applications and so much more.

It’s cluttered with needless features that pop up everywhere. The only thing missing is a christmas-tree with lights and a carol going off. Despite having all these features, it lacks the simple need for app-specific favorites. Now I have to dig into a mess of favorite folders that I cannot even organize. The app feels slow and bogs down slower macs.

Do this instead: create a folder called App Favorites in your home folder, drag this to the favorites bar, preferably high up in the list. Then add aliases into this folder for every folder you need to quickly get to. You can either have a long list of unorganized folders, or you can create subfolders for specific apps, or make a sorted list with a prefix in every name connected to the intended app.
