Improve this answer. Thanks for your answer. My machine is not on a domain. Unfortunately Microsoft, in their infinite wisdom, decided that Win10 Home users shall not have access to gpedit. Third-party tools such as Policy Plus github. Your suggestion that some other third-party installed program might be causing the issue is good. I’ve tried to disable AV and FW after physically disconnecting the machine from the network , but unfortunately the issue persists. I’ve always been extremely careful on my machines and avoided installing programs unless I really needed them and knew what they were doing.

I have recommended Policy Plus in several posts and it always did the job. If not, you could use ntrights. See description. Due to important reasons I cannot do these experiments with the machine right now.

I’m willing to do so when possible. For now I’m awarding the bounty because it has expired. Will let you know. No problem, let me know how it goes. Add a comment. However, I finally devised a solution. Click Run, then type Regedit. Sign up or log in Sign up using Google. Sign up using Facebook. UAC is enabled, I am an administrator and i have no idea how to run it in cmd. One way third party way would be with nircmd.

All the glory to Ramesh Srinivasan. This was answered for PowerShell here: How to run script as administrator? This seems to happen when a shortcut points to an object identifier rather than a directory path. The fix is to create a shortcut to the executable that needs to be run as admin if you want to workaround the ugly code for invoking the UAC prompt. After creating the new shortcut, right-click on it and select Properties , then click the Shortcut tab, then the Advanced But I just found a simple solution for this.

Found when I right-clicked the icon, selected properties, then selected the Advanced button next to Change Icon. Select the Run As Administrator option then Save. If UAC is enabled, it will still ask for permission to run, but it will now run properly.

My icon was copied to the quick launch bar. The option to run as administrator was greyed out. So I started again and I deleted the shortcut i had previously tried to set. Opened my start menu, found the icon I wanted, properties, open file location. This opened the file location of the shortcut from my start menu – perfect.

BrianD gave the best answer and Ross in How to run script as administrator? Instead of using the compatibility tab where the option is greyed out use the Advanced button on the Shortcut Tab. I was trying for Control Panel to “Run as admin”, but it was greyed out for a standard user. Now this shortcut is available with “Run as administrator” on right-click. Sign up to join this community. Create a free Team Why Teams? All Hello buttons and options were grayed out. I thrashed around for a while. Most web sites only address the various group policy changes that are required for Biometrics and Windows Hello. In addition to the various Biometrics and Windows Hello GPO, we found it was also necessary to create a single registry key.

We created a User Configuration rather than a Computer Configuration, which didn’t work for us GPO that set the following registry entry:. I got PIN working.

I went through and removed any domain GPO I had created relating to this issue. I manually ran gpedit. While PIN is working, the machine does still tell me that Windows Hello isn’t available even though I have used the facial recognition login on this very machine in the past. Starting with build , Windows 10 does not allow the “convenience pin” for domain-joined logons by default, out-of-the box.

Users who are running Windows 10 Version or earlier can do so without issue. Note that if you had Windows 10 configured to use a pin or fingerprint sign-in prior to installing the build, that convenience sign-in method will continue to work after the update is installed.

This has the effect of obfuscating the issue, and frustrated my efforts to find the resolution. Thankfully, it’s easy to enable the “convenience pin” functionality, which as a side-effect also enables Windows Hello Fingerprint sign-in and Windows Hello Face sign-in.

Using the Group Policy Editor for the entire domain will allow this setting to automatically be applied to future installations of Windows 10, however you don’t necessarily need to enable this at the domain level. Simply run the gpedit. Once you enable the setting, run gpupdate.

The Group Policy Editor included in Windows 10 Professional version includes this in the description for the above policy:. Start by clicking on the Azure Active Directory node and then on All devices. Next, I decided to review the AAD audit logs to determine what is going on.

After logging in as a Global Administrator I was finally able to review the audit logs. You can see in the above screenshot that there are five entries indicating that my computer is no longer managed by Intune and was also deleted from AAD. What lessons did I learn? You can use the AAD audit logs to confirm this information. I predict that this will make life difficult managing these devices.

At a minimum it will mean that organizational procedures will need to be updated in order to keep pace with what actually occurs versus what an administrator would expect to happen. Connect and share knowledge within a single location that is structured windowd easy to search. The company that I work for continuously hires new people, wwindows I’m the one who has to go and purchase new computers. The majority of them, if not all, come pre-installed with Windows Home editions. I’m having to buy the upgrades to the Pro editions.

I’m trying to understand as to why the Home edition of the OS is unable to connect joni domains? Domin doesn’t allow Home editions of Windows wineows join windows 10 home join domain greyed out free because they figure that home fee won’t be connecting to any type of domain. Although that does suck, you do have to purchase the professional version of Windows in order to get that feature. Don’t be fooled by some of these answers, while you can’t join a domain there are jpin you can connect to a vree for windowd applications that require it if you have a domain account.

Using this approach I was able to do all of my work related task on a Windows Home Edition computer. It’s basically market segmentation by Microsoft. They have decided that the Home editions cannot hom to the domain so they can price and support different products in a different way. You will continue to have to upgrade the Home editions unless you can find a vendor, such as CDW just what my employer usesthat will provide the business versions pre-installed.

Many of these vendors will ship next day, but for a price. It’s up to you and your employer if you want to go that route. Microsoft has also ensured that Home users likely will never use domains with the advent of the home group in 7 and 8, possibly Vista as well, though I’m not sure. Home users who check email, use social networks, play games, etc. Domains on the other hand are, um, the domain—pun intended—of enterprises, schools, etc. Windows 10 home join domain greyed out free, Microsoft can put advanced functions like this in a different edition and provide a donain version for home users and a more expensive one windows 10 home join domain greyed out free organizations.

A license property doesn’t allow it. As was indicated in another answer, this is market segmentation. Home users have no need to join a computer to a domain, but business users often absolutely require it.

Economics here. One option you have is to purchasecomputers that come with a Professional Edition of Windows pre-installed. These do exist, and it’s likely cheaper to get your license this way than to pay for the upgrade seperately. An even better option is to start using volume licensing. If you have 5 or more Windows computers windows 10 home join domain greyed out free your business, you qualify for the volume licensing program. This can yield a huge saving over the retail pricing. If Home Premium had this feature then there would be no reason for businesses to purchase Professional and Enterprise versions. The good news is Windows 8 Professional does support joining domains which should be used anyways in an office.

How are we suppose to know we are not Microsoft — Ramhound. There is no windows 10 home join domain greyed out free limitation beyond the fact it literally does not support doing so.
